Accessories can make the difference between a well-dressed man and a ho-hum man. yet many men falter when it comes to selecting and appropriately wearing them. The key is to remember that accessories are the final component that pulls an outfit together, and they need be worn with confidence.

Watches – Most of us use our cell phones to see what time it is nowadays, so what purpose do watches serve, then? they are very much about style and fashion. For the most versatile appearance, select a watch with an analog face, and a band made with a silver finish, or one made of steel. Beware of all gold, as it can look very dated. Black and brown leather bands are also a great option. For the most versatility, avoid watches with a brightly colored face and instead stick to neutral ones. one thing that will never be in style is wearing a mock designer watch. if you want to wear a designer watch, invest in the real thing. otherwise, there are a great number of reasonably priced and very good quality watches that are available in jewelry and department stores.

Hats – Baseball caps should generally be reserved for sporting events, and outdoor activities such as mowing the lawn. but a nice collection of stylish hats is a great addition to your wardrobe of accessories. even just a plain white tee shirt and pair of dark jeans can become an actual outfit with the right hat. Some great styles to look for are newsboy caps, derbies, fedoras, and Kangol hats. Don’t just buy the same hat in different colors — look for different styles that flatter the shape of your face and hair. A well chosen hat is an excellent accessory because it is the last thing you put on, and the first thing people will notice. For a special event such as an outdoor wedding, a nice hat along with the right tie accessories can take your appearance in a suit from average to outstanding.

The Man Bag – The classic messenger bag recently made a huge comeback in men’s style. And now that we are constantly carrying around laptops, tablets, and other electronics, they are really quite practical. Look for a messenger bag that is no smaller than your average laptop computer, can hang cross-wise across your body with a shoulder strap, and has a securely closing buckle or zipper. Black and brown leather are the most versatile and classic materials. A good quality leather messenger bag will look good with any outfit, including a suit.

Sunglasses - Sunglasses are an essential accessory for any man. When selecting sunglasses, if you are faced with two or more choices, always go with the pair that is the simplest. A simple pair of sunglasses is most likely to stay in style for a long time and not look dated. Classic frames such as Aviators and Wayfarers will never go out of style, and also look nice on any shape of face.

Jewelry – For men, less is more when it comes to jewelry. Stick to just one ring (in addition to your wedding band, if you wear one). The best options are to choose white gold or silver, as again, gold has the tendency to look more dated. Newsboy Hats and Ivy Caps

Newsboy caps and ivy caps – variously known as flat caps, baker boy hats, driving caps, golf caps, English caps, eight-quarter caps, etc. – date to pre-World War I and historically are associated with the working classes. In pictures from this period, as well as in literature, one finds factory workers, laborers, construction workers [there is a famous 1932 photograph by Charles C. Ebbets of construction workers on a beam over NYC - Lunch Atop a Skyscraper -where most are wearing a newsboy or ivy cap], etc. wearing variations of cloth caps. Because this headwear was cut-and-sewn primarily from either cotton or woolen fabrics, variations were plentiful and a man could easily distinguish himself from the next by his choice of color, material (e.g. tweed, herringbone, etc.), or style (cut). Furthermore, these caps were inexpensive when compared to the full size hats of the day like bowlers, top hats, or fedoras, so a person could own more than one and, if so inclined, change his hat from day to day. Because of the small size, soft nature, and portability of these caps, their popularity spread to young professionals, college fraternities (ivy cap as in Ivy League), sportsmen (golf cap as worn by the likes of Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan), etc. a man accustomed to dressing up for work during the week with a full size hat, could now wear this informal cap on the weekend signaling his time off while he pursued leisure activity without stepping down in class.

Today, the popularity of ivy and newsboy hats is perhaps second only to its ubiquity in the early 20th Century. the English-born Kangol 504 cap helped to revitalize this style in the mid to late 1990s. Movie stars, musicians, golfers, fashionistas, skate boarders, people young and old, can be found on a daily basis wearing a newsboy or ivy cap frontwards, backwards, or sideways.. those who determined that this was my style quickly learned that the variations of this headwear style are virtually limitless. Many – like my father – make a hobby of collecting caps and make certain to pick up one or two while traveling in the British Isles or Europe.

Need advice….friend stole from me?

Please excuse the legnth I just wanted to give you the complete background…so a couple months back I bought a kangol winter hat and I wore it everyday since I bought it considering we get pretty bad winters where I live. but one day we had a bad winter storm and I stayed at my friends house. the next day I went home and I accidentaly left my hat and some other things over there. when I called him and asked if it was over there he comfirmed and we agreed I would come pick it up the next day. so the following day I plan to pick it up after work but I get a txt in the middle of the day cointaing a picture of my hat with his initials and saying "this is to teach you a lesson about farting on my bed." he doesn't believe that he has done any wrong and feels I should not be reimbursed for my hat, or even give me an apology.
Now I understand farting on a bed is not cool but it can be fixed simply by washing the sheets where as I can't get embroiderment out of my hat. I don't know how to react seeng as I treat him as a brother and have given him shoes,clothes,cologne, rides etc… now I work hard for everything I own as well as he does and I would expect him to understand that and respect my property. I'm sorry for the rants but I kinda want to know how you would respond to the situation?

damaging other peoples property is against the law, If u tell him to buya new one and he refuses then tell him ur going to the police, if he laughs, DO IT.

Steal it back! Then guard your stuff!

Tell him that stealing is wrong, and that if he doesn't return the hat, you will tell everyone that he is not to be trusted because of what he's done. Tell your parents too, and all your friends so they're all on your side. he owes you not only the hat, but also a grovelling apology for stealing your hat. plus, he needs to work really hard to regain your trust.

He needs to return the hat, then stay away from you as he's not a friend. Sounds to me as though he's been freeloading on you, while pretending to be your friend. You're much better of without him. as the old saying goes – with friends like him, who needs enemies?

Hip Hop Reminisce

Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot once asked, “What happened to those good old days when hip hop was so much fun?” To some, hip hop is here and now, but there are those that believe the music died years ago. the culture and lifestyle of hip hop has been present for over twenty years. for that duration, it has always belonged to the youth. it is the youth that created this culture as their freedom of expression and it has been theirs to mold.

When the words “hip hop” come to mind, we usually think about our adolescence and the songs that we grew up with. we reminisce about the artists that we tried to emulate. from the Kangol hats and gold chains to the big baggy pants with the exposed boxers, there was a time in our lives that we lived hip hop and it belonged only to us.

Let’s go back in the day when we were young and reminisce.

Fat laces crept up on our Adidas alongside the gold chains as run DMC told us to walk this way. On the weekends, our Adidas walked to the local house or block party. all we needed was two turntables and one mic to get the party started. the b-boys and b-girls top-rocked as the DJ, who was the star before the MC, mixed it up after the king of the cross fader, Jam Master Jay.

Hip hop is a culture to express who you really are. Not everyone who listened and loved the music wanted to rock the gold chains. Russell Simmons saw that when he talked the Beastie Boys out of wearing the Kangols and sweatsuits. they showed us how licensed to ill they really were in just jeans and a white shirt. Not to be outdone, the ladies had to represent with their bodysuits and doorknocker earrings as they pushed it with the ladies of Salt-n-Pepa.

Not only did we party with hip hop, we made political statements. Public Enemy taught us how to fight the powers that be while the likes of KRS-One, MC Lyte, Kool, Moe Dee, and Doug E. Fresh showed us that ignorance had us headed toward self-destruction.

Alongside the Kangols and gold chains of LL cool J and Slick Rick, there were the afrocentric clothing representing black unity. Queen Latifah not only taught men to put ladies first, but she also taught girls to stand up for themselves with unity. and even if they were fed up, Tupac told the ladies to keep their head up.

There was fun in the summertime with the Fresh Prince and kickstepping with Kid N’ Play. However, our beloved hip hop did not go without it’s controversies. there was a time when Biggie asked us, “What’s Beef?”. KRS-One declared the bridge was over for MC Shan. LL cool J triggered the sharp tongue of Canibus over “borrowing” the microphone tattoo on his arm.

Not to be outdone, the ladies of hip hop were also in on the action. Roxanne Shante got the last laugh when her record label paid for her Ph.D. in addition, Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown had similar styles, iconic mentors, and were even once on the same tour (No way Out) before they became lyrical adversaries.

Opposite of the scantily clad clothes was the first woman in hip hop to go platinum, Da Brat, rocking her baggy clothes and braids looking so, so funkdified.

If we could only “go back in the day, British knights and gold chains, do the prep and cabbage patch, and wear our laces all fat”. even though hip hop has changed, we can always reminisce about the time it was all so simple then.
