Yves Saint Laurent Belle D’Opium

Yves Saint Laurent Belle d’Opium, with hairspray oriental. YSL calls it the next generation of Opium.

Perfumers Honorine Blanc and Alberto Morillas developed Belle d’Opium, giving it notes including Casablanca lily, sandalwood, gardenia, white pepper, jasmine, and narguile accord. after a generous spray of Belle d’Opium, smell a hint of orange before gardenia takes over.

The gardenia isn’t the wet, tropical gardenia of Este Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia or even Jovan Jungle Gardenia, but is a thin, synthetic flower coated in Aqua Net. A thread of tobacco and fruit run through the gardenia. the tiniest bit of jasmine hums along, too. because of a little resin and amber, it does smell like a high-pitched relative of Opium, but without Opium’s drama and deep, clove-y spice.

In an article in Elle magazine**, perfumer Calice Becker compares mainstream perfumes to formulaic romantic comedies. With mass perfume, it’s the same: We go for the stars that we know everyone likes. but the same article goes on to quote Vera Strubi, the former president of Thierry Mugler perfumes. About Angel’s launch, she says, That’s when I realized that if you want a fragrance to be memorable, it can’t please everybody.

Opium took a bold stance over 30 years ago, and it still sells well, offending and delighting across the globe. On the other hand, tries to be a romantic comedy, if with a vaguely oriental feel.

Yves Saint Laurent Belle d’Opium is available in 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum.

Young Sexy Lovely Perfume by Yves Saint Laurent

This perfume YSL was launched in 2006 and it is a special edition which was originally created for the duty free market of airport or cruises in the Asiatic continent, and then introduced in other markets too.

The name Young Sexy Lovely uses the same initials of the perfume designer is a sign of the constant effort that the perfume house is making to target young women, probably to freshen up a classical and adult image that comes from the eighties.

The opening notes of this fragrance are in part rose in part strawberry with a mild and dry spicy hint, along with the sweet and sour smell of berries.

The middle notes are still dry, but they move towards wood. Berries are less strong and less sour, very similar to the idea of cherry flowers. Also berries show their dark side, with blackberry, but without the extremely sour blueberry.

After four hours the dry notes stabilize and become dominant.

In the final notes, strawberry gets floral, with a hint of spicy blackberry.

Considering the fruity and rose notes of the opening, at the beginning the fragrance gives an idea of a young fragrance, a mix of Baby Doll and Parisienne.

All in all it is not a complex fragrance, and this makes it appropriate for an office environment. it can be used daily, ideally in spring and autumn as it is not suitable for extreme weather conditions. Conversely, it does not have enough personality for an evening use, be it casual or romantic.

Is it " Okay " for a Man to wear a Ladies Fragrance ( Perfume ) such as Opium by YSL ?

Okay so, I'm a " Straight Metro-Sexual " 31 Y/O Male and yes, I love Fragrances, so my question is would it be fine for a Man ( me ) to wear Opium EDT/Parfum by YSL for Ladies ? It's a spicy, heady scent, with a masculine edge ( I think ) so, would you Ladies think that was a " Turn-On or a Turn-OFF ! ? "……

Yes, absolutely. It's just marketing anyway.
I have a guy friend who wears Opium for woman (seriously, it's his signature scent), and people can't tell it's a guy's perfume. he also wears something like Angel, Shalimar, Chloe, and even Coco Mademoiselle, and gets away with it. xD

Turn on or off…
If I like the scent, then it's a turn on for me.

PS I actually find a guy who wears something less masculine or even something on the feminine side even more attractive. it makes me feel like he is secure enough in his sexuality to wear whatever he likes. And that's sexy…

Who is Tom Ford?

Tom Ford was born in Austin, Texas in 1962. His mother taught him that being badly dressed was disrespectful of others therefore he spent most of his childhood worrying about how he looked. at the age of 12 his mother bought him a pair of Gucci Loafers.

On 1986, Tom Ford joined the creative staff of the American Famous designer Cathy Hardwick. on 1988 Tom ford join Perry Ellis on the position of design Director under Marc Jacobs. Tom didn’t make a name for him in the business until he was relocated to Europe in 1990 and landed a position with Gucci. After his partner Richard Buckley was ill with cancer, they both decided to leave the stress of New York and important learning period of the 80′s Fashion behind and head for Italy. Year 1994, Ford Was promoted to creative director. He was responsible for the design and conception of all product lines within the company; Clothing, perfumes, and more. He became arguably the most influential designer of the last decade

Ford was appointed to be the creative director of YSL after Gucci bought a controlling stake in Yves Saint Laurent in 2000.Ford believes that he owes his success not to talent, but to his energy. He admits to sleeping just two or three hours per night, keeping post-it notes beside the bed in case he wakes up with an idea. “There are many more talented designers than me,” he once told an audience at the V&A in London. “But I have a lot of drive and won’t let it go.” He also credits his “mainstream” appeal. “I’m lucky, I have mass-market tastes,” he says. “When I say I like a shoe, generally thousands of people will like it. thank God, because I would have been a very unhappy person if I hadn’t had this kind of success.”

On November 2003 it was announced that Tom and chief executive Domenico de Sole would be leaving the Italy brand in 2004 “with great sadness” but Ford said he was “confident that we are leaving behind one of the strongest teams in the industry.” then in March 2004, he presented his last collections for YSL Rive Gauche and Gucci, amid very emotional farewells. Both collections were smash hits.

He and Domenico de Sole, his colleague who left Gucci with him, set up a new company called just “Tom Ford”. As the first major initiative, this company has now collaborated with cosmetics giant Estée Lauder to create beauty products and fragrances. No financial figures have been revealed about the deal. we saw the beauty line and sunglasses by the end of 2005, also a woman’s fragrance ‘Amber N.de’ and ‘Youth Dew’. for his eyewear collection he made an agreement with the Marcolin Group in Italy. Last spring, though, the designer announced a return to fashion with a signature ready-to-wear men’s line. The clothing line, which will be produced by European manufacturer Ermenegildo Zegna, is expected to cater to a high-end clientele, with a men’s suit fetching up-wards of $2,000.

Starting from Madison Ave, Manhattan, Mr. Ford plans to open stores in Milan, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo over the next three to four years. Ford’s first ‘Tom Ford’ flagship store opened on April 12, 2007 on New York City’s Madison Avenue. In Spring 2008, Ford opened his first boutique outside of the United States in Zurich, Switzerland located at Munsterhof 17. Yves Saint Laurent Dead!!?

What do you think about yves saint laurents death??

Legend has dead.
I noticed like a couple weeks ago lol

Not much to think about. he died.

A sad day in fashion but more legends have yet to be made.

Sad but he had a good and long and very fulfilled life.

Has anyone used Touche Eclat radiant touch by ysl?

yea! thought it was just okay, everyone was raving on about it so i got it, its good and all but not brilliant, give it a try and see what you think

good luck

I have yes and it is a good product.

BUT, mightily expensive, especially as it doesn't last very long.

I've discovered a similar product from The Body Shop which is just about as good…but it's half the price. So to be honest, I would go with the Body Shop one – goodness knows I'm sticking with from now on :)

What Is Silk Made Of?

Silkworm cocoons are made up of single filament which, if carefully unwound, can be as long as 800m. This can be woven to produce material which is soft, lightweight, strong, durable, and ideal for dyeing. however, the raising of silkworms required constant care and feeding during the six-week breeding period between the hatching of silkworm eggs and the spinning of the cocoons.

During 30 days when the very delicate worms were growing to full size, they required constant attention and time consuming. They need to be fed several times a day on fresh mulberry leaves. at the right time, the fully grown worms were placed either on an inclined frame or a bigger tray so that they could begin spinning their cocoons.

Finally, just before the silkworm eggs were ready to hack, the silk had to be reeled from the cocoons. If there were insufficient reeling machine or labour to do the silk. the moths have to be killed by boiling or smoking.

Originally, cloth making was done without tools simply by rolling the raw fibres between the hands and thigh.

However, by the least 5000 BCE, the Chinese was beginning to use spindle whorls.

Later, under the Shang dynasty, simple hand operated spinning wheels began to appear.

For centuries, Lanzhou was an important city because it was on a great trade route, known as the silk road. Merchants used to take beautiful silk cloth made in China westwards on the long journey to Europe. in those days, Lanzhou lay near the boarders of China (yellow river), and it was the last major Chinese city traveler saw before they headed out across the deserts to the west.

In the year 1839-1842, the opium war between China and Britain. Chinese’s defeat resulted in the cession of Hong Kong to Britain and the forcible opening of its port to European merchants.
