My Review
As I mentioned above I was looking for a wet/dry cordless clipper. I have had a few different trimmers over the years, but this is my first wet/dry clipper. I purchased the Panasonic after reading some of the reviews on Amazon. there were over a hundred reviews and the average was close to four out of five stars, which is really good considering that many reviews.
I have been shaving my head for 3 years now and it has always been a pain to clean up my mess. when doing my research I wanted to find a trimmer that I could use in the shower. I also have a four year old son that loves to shave his head just like dad. we both shave in the shower (without the water running) and then turn the water on for really easy clean up (much better than a broom).
Here are a few of the things I love about the cordless clipper:

  • Waterproof, can be used in the shower
  • The entire trimmer is washable, not just a portion
  • Very well built
  • Good size guard
  • Relatively quiet operation
  • Cordless
  • Great battery and quick charging – I only charge the trimmer for an hour or so and that lasts me weeks

In addition to all of the great features the Panasonic is fairly easy to maintain. I oil the blades every couple months and that is about all I do other than regularly clean hair away under the sink.

Finally, the Panasonic is a great value, I purchased my unit for less than $30 on Amazon. overall there are a ton of great features and this product is built extremely well. I would definitely recommend this versatile trimmer to anyone, not to mention the great value

Tails of Marin: Clipping kitty’s claws can be a challenge

Cat nail clippers? Check. Body armor? Check. Suspicious cat? Check. actually, clipping your cat’s claws needn’t be a battle but it helps to start with the right c-attitude and some know-how.

First, a bit about scratching behavior: please don’t take your cat’s need to scratch personally. It’s not trying to sharpen its nails to spite you. It’s helping to remove old, dead claw sheaths as the new ones grow in.

Cats also use the kitty “Incredibles” stretch as a form of exercise and marking of territory. Declawing a cat not only robs a cat’s only means of defense outdoors, but it also is a cruel disfigurement akin to having your own nails removed surgically at the knuckles. There are other alternatives.

So, when your cat begins its sofa yoga posture, forget the spray bottles, yelling (which scares the neighbors) and lunging at it. The long-term answer is diversion. If you troll online, you’ll discover a vast array of scratching posts — ones that hang from a doorknob or stand alone upright, multifloor condos that cost as much as a human one and flat, cardboard ones.

Your cat will tell you which one it likes. I’ve tried the ones that hang from the doorknob and none of my cats would have anything to do with it. but, they liked a short one strategically placed below the arm of the couch. Rubbing catnip all over it when I first brought it home did the trick.

I also have tried a product called Sticky Paws, which can be used harmlessly on furniture and counters. The name is self-explanatory and my cats hated it. The drawback is that even though it’s transparent, you can see it on the upholstery, so it probably wouldn’t pass Martha Stewart’s test.

Now for the claw-clipping. this YouTube video about claw-clipping is pretty good: youtube.com/watch?v=5YLDQMvskH8. it demonstrated how to hold the cat on your lap with its body against the side of the couch so it feels secure and prevents it from escaping. with nail clippers in one hand and holding the paw in the others, you gently push on the paw-pad so the nails pop out. Gently cut at an angle, avoiding the pink “quick” at the base of the claw. Cats have five claws in the front and four in the back. it may take a little exploration — especially if you have a long-haired, fuzzy feline — to find the “dew claw” on the inside of the paw. back claws often don’t get as long as the front because cats push off with the back paws and groom them with their teeth. and, surprise — you may have a polydactyl with an extra “toe.” C

The cat in the video is so mellow it could have been on Valium. I thought of my Harry, who’s a bit feral and won’t stand for the traditional method. That’s when a second person or “the burrito method” is called for. Scruffing a cat might feel strange to you but cats don’t mind it. a primal kinesthetic memory from when their mom carried them around in its mouth, a cat responds to it like a Vulcan grip and immediately relaxes. One person can scruff and hold the cat facing outward as the other person clips.

I have to use the burrito method with Harry since he’ll twist out of a scruffing like a member of the Moscow Cat Circus. Placing a blanket on the couch, I wrap him in it with his head covered and his paws sticking out. Luckily I’ve gotten my claw-clipping up to speed, so even though he protests a lot, he’s out before he knew what hit him and we’re back to being friends.
