Waxing – A Beautician’s Perspective

As a beautician I get asked lots of questions regarding hair waxing from what are the best products to use, the advantages over other hair removal methods to how often to wax and how long should the are treated remain smooth? obviously as a professional I would recommend that you visit a beauty salon for the best results and advice. however I know that it is not always possible to do this if you don’t have the time or budget to visit a salon regularly. In fact I tend to wax my legs and bikini line myself especially if I’m away on vacation.

I often recommend hair waxing to people if they have encountered problems with other methods. for people with skin that is sensitive to razor burn or are allergic to depilatory creams hair waxing can be the best alternative.

Waxing is not only effective over a large area of the body, the back or chest for example, but it is also very good for tidying and shaping areas like eyebrows and the bikini line.

Essentially there are two different types of wax kits available for home use either hot wax or cold wax. It’s often down to personal preference which one you go for but there are certain parts of the body that are better treated with hot wax and vice versa.

Hot wax requires that you purchase a wax heater so that you can melt the wax before applying it. Hot waxing tends to be more suited to the legs and bikini line with cold wax fine to use for the face and underarms.

Our body hair tends to grow at different speeds, which determine how often each area will require waxing. however the whole of the hair including the follicle is removed when using hot wax so the area treated tends to remain smoother for longer than if treated with cold wax.

Cold wax usually comes in strips which are applied cold and then removed sharply in one movement. this can be tricky to get right at first and can be painful if done incorrectly so it is advisable to have someone who has used hair wax before to help you if its your first time waxing at home.

After a few goes at waxing you should be able to treat most of your body yourself, with the back being an obvious exception, so guys will have to get some help to do this. you can also have fun with the end result.
I hope this has helped you make your mind up about which type of waxing is best for you and you’ll soon be an expert yourself.

Cheap Salon Equipment

There are various types of salon equipment available to meet any salon needs. There are gadgets to outfit and set hair, nails and other forms of body beautification. There is basic, inexpensive, salon equipment, appropriate for a start-up venture or for a regular non-expensive salon owner. On the other hand, an experienced salon owner’s business may benefit from the expensive salon equipment.

An indispensable piece of salon equipment is the chair. the typical chair features a thickly padded seat, for comfort, as well as the ability to recline and lift. This feature allows a stylist to adjust the chair according to the height of the client quickly. Other equipment used in providing hair styling services and hair-cutting includes, washbasins, hair dryers, mirrors and customized styling stations.

Some customers choose to buy from reputed retailers. they can often save an incredible amount of money, by opting to purchase used equipment instead of branded and new equipment. the overall ambience of a salon plays a major role in determining the type of equipment and the services that will be required and catered to in the salon. A beauty salon that offers expensive services requires the equipment used to symbolize the quality offered. There are a lot of features that may be added to the basic equipment to make sure that the client has a relaxing and an enjoyable salon experience.

Many stores offer discounts on salon equipment. This gives salon owners the chance to furnish their salons with the latest contemporary equipment. A variety of discount equipment is available for bulk purchases. These purchases eliminate the chances of running out on equipment and the bargain falls cheaper. Cheap offers generally attract the vulnerable lot of customers, who are setting up the salon on an experimental basis. when a customer decides to buy cheap discounted equipment, it is advisable to consider the quality.

Hair Salon Checklist – What Equipment Do You Need?

If you own, or are about to open, a hairdressing salon, you need to make sure you have all the relevant supplies, equipment and furniture well stocked. Here’s a checklist of five items you can’t operate without.

1) Quality hairdryers aren’t the same as the kind most people have for personal use, they’re actually designed for use in a salon. There are a number of brands that specialise in these products, so they have all the features and benefits you’re going to need.

2) every stylist needs their hairdressing scissors and you’ll want to make sure that you and every member of your team has a quality pair. they come in different shapes and sizes, perfect for creating different styles or achieving different cuts.

3) Brushes and combs are also essential and you’ll need plenty. Ask your team which they prefer, as everyone has their preferences, and again make sure you have at least one for every style you’re likely to create.

4) no salon should be equipped with hair clippers, especially those that cut men’s hair as well as women’s. You’ll want an easy to use and easy to clean product and reliability is the key word. it never hurts to have back-ups, too. you don’t want in conking out half-way through a cut.

5) Many customers like to have their hair straightened and curled, so it stands to reason that you’ll need some hair straighteners and stylers. however, quality is absolutely paramount as each brand’s product delivers a different end result. Read reviews and talk to your customers about what they’re going to need and be prepared to upgrade if there’s enough demand for something new.

Now you know the basics, from hairdressing scissors to hair clippers, why not make a list of everything you need and start your research.

What are some professional makeup stores, with discount prices?

You know, there are hair salon places, especially designed for hair cutters to buy their products for a cheaper price, and to buy equipment, such as chairs and heat tools and scissors. anyone could go there to just buy products for a cheaper price. ANYWAY, is there a makeup store like that? Not like Sephora, (that's pretty expensive), but something more affordable. Or is it just hair supplies/equipment stores that exist?

DRUGSTORE MAKEUP ALL THE WAY !!!! :D

If you live in America then go to WALMART or Ulta, or to your normal drugstore. I know for a fact that no matter where you live, every single drugstore does sell makeup. most of them sell brands like Maybelline new York, RIMMEL, MAX FACTOR and stuff like that. If you live in the UK then try out Superdrug, they sell the exact same – there are tons and tons of more brands, but they aren't coming into my head atm !!! Loooool, seriously though just try and look around – you will definetely find some good makeup if you keep your eye open :D

Hope I helped !

10 Hairdressing Supplies You Must Have

If you’re a hairdresser, or run a salon, then you’ll probably have everything you need, and everything your clients expect you to have. If you’re setting up a salon, or thinking about becoming a hairdresser, then here are some of the things that you’ll need.

    1. Hairdressing scissors are essential, and you’ll need to make sure that you have the right sorts for cutting different types of hair, and for creating different hair styles. There are long and short scissors for a reason, so make sure that you’re using the right ones.

    2. Having the right hair brushes and combs really does make a difference, and you can advise your clients how best to take care of their hair, and create their hairstyle at home using the right hairbrush. Perhaps your clients have had the same brush for years, and aren’t aware of the features and benefits of using the right sort of hair brush.

    3. Hair clips can be used to keep hair out of the way whilst you cut other sections of hair. Depending on the length of hair, and style you are creating, you’ll need a variety of clips in different sizes.

    4. Hair products are often used as the finishing touch for hair styles. You’ll need to make sure that you have the right sort of gels, waxes, hairspray and other lotions and potions in order to help your clients get the salon look at home.

    5. Hair clippers are mainly used for cutting men’s hair, so if you offer hairdressing services to men too, you’ll want to make sure that you can give them the haircuts they need.

    6. Salon quality hairdryers will make drying hair much quicker and easier, and mean that you can see more clients in a day. Although you might not appreciate the difference initially, after you’ve used them for a while, you’ll know what makes a good salon hairdryer.

    7. Good quality hair straighteners and stylers are also important to give your clients the look they want. Perhaps you’ll also sell your favourite ranges of hair straightener in your salon, so that your clients can get their look wherever they are.

    8. You’ll want to make sure that you have plenty of towels so that you’re not short of towels at peak times. It’s far better to have too many towels than to have to turn away clients because you don’t have enough clean towels.

    9. Salon clothing is important, and gives your staff the professional look that your clients expect. If you’re offering a fantastic service at a good price, then it’s important that you and your staff look the part too.

    10. The right salon furniture will ensure that your clients are comfortable, and that your hairdressers can work their magic. You’ll need to ensure that chairs are adjustable, and that wash stations are in the right part of the salon, and that there are plenty of mirrors and trolleys.

Now you know more about what you need for a successful salon, have you got all the hairdressing supplies and salon equipment you need?

On my 2009 taxes, can I take accelerated deprec for equip bought in 2009 for use in my business? If so, what %?

The equipment will be pedicure spa chairs for my Nail Salon.

Assuming the amount of equipment you purchased was 10,000 on 7/1 (for ease of calculation), you can take accerlerated depreciation by either:

Section 179 election: as long as the equipment qualifies (and generally that is the case), you can expense 100% of the cost

    First year depreciation expense: 10,000

This election must be utilized in the same year in which the asset is placed in service. any amounts not utilized under section 179 can still be depreciated regularly.

Accelerated depreciation + Regular depreciation – for 2008 and 2009, you are allowed to take a bonus allowance of 50%, plus regular depreciation.

    50% bonus allowance: 5,000
Half year of regular depreciation (purchased 7/1) on the remaining balance, assuming normal five years of life on equipment: (10,000 – 5,000) / 5 / 2: 500

    First year depreciation expense 5,500

Dear Clint: Check with a tax professional as you maybe able to take the entire amount as a section 179 deduction. there are many rules and a consultation with a tax pro would be free.

This advice was prepared based on out understanding of the tax law in effect at the time. Click on my profile to read more. Errol Quinn Enrolled Agent
