As a beautician I get asked lots of questions regarding hair waxing from what are the best products to use, the advantages over other hair removal methods to how often to wax and how long should the are treated remain smooth? obviously as a professional I would recommend that you visit a beauty salon for the best results and advice. however I know that it is not always possible to do this if you don’t have the time or budget to visit a salon regularly. In fact I tend to wax my legs and bikini line myself especially if I’m away on vacation.

I often recommend hair waxing to people if they have encountered problems with other methods. for people with skin that is sensitive to razor burn or are allergic to depilatory creams hair waxing can be the best alternative.

Waxing is not only effective over a large area of the body, the back or chest for example, but it is also very good for tidying and shaping areas like eyebrows and the bikini line.

Essentially there are two different types of wax kits available for home use either hot wax or cold wax. It’s often down to personal preference which one you go for but there are certain parts of the body that are better treated with hot wax and vice versa.

Hot wax requires that you purchase a wax heater so that you can melt the wax before applying it. Hot waxing tends to be more suited to the legs and bikini line with cold wax fine to use for the face and underarms.

Our body hair tends to grow at different speeds, which determine how often each area will require waxing. however the whole of the hair including the follicle is removed when using hot wax so the area treated tends to remain smoother for longer than if treated with cold wax.

Cold wax usually comes in strips which are applied cold and then removed sharply in one movement. this can be tricky to get right at first and can be painful if done incorrectly so it is advisable to have someone who has used hair wax before to help you if its your first time waxing at home.

After a few goes at waxing you should be able to treat most of your body yourself, with the back being an obvious exception, so guys will have to get some help to do this. you can also have fun with the end result.

You know, there are hair salon places, especially designed for hair cutters to buy their products for a cheaper price, and to buy equipment, such as chairs and heat tools and scissors. anyone could go there to just buy products for a cheaper price. ANYWAY, is there a makeup store like that? Not like Sephora, (that's pretty expensive), but something more affordable. Or is it just hair supplies/equipment stores that exist?

If you live in America then go to WALMART or Ulta, or to your normal drugstore. I know for a fact that no matter where you live, every single drugstore does sell makeup. most of them sell brands like Maybelline new York, RIMMEL, MAX FACTOR and stuff like that. If you live in the UK then try out Superdrug, they sell the exact same – there are tons and tons of more brands, but they aren't coming into my head atm !!! Loooool, seriously though just try and look around – you will definetely find some good makeup if you keep your eye open :D

    On my 2009 taxes, can I take accelerated deprec for equip bought in 2009 for use in my business? If so, what %?

    The equipment will be pedicure spa chairs for my Nail Salon.

    Assuming the amount of equipment you purchased was 10,000 on 7/1 (for ease of calculation), you can take accerlerated depreciation by either:

    Section 179 election: as long as the equipment qualifies (and generally that is the case), you can expense 100% of the cost

    First year depreciation expense: 10,000

    This election must be utilized in the same year in which the asset is placed in service. any amounts not utilized under section 179 can still be depreciated regularly.

    Accelerated depreciation + Regular depreciation – for 2008 and 2009, you are allowed to take a bonus allowance of 50%, plus regular depreciation.

    50% bonus allowance: 5,000
    Half year of regular depreciation (purchased 7/1) on the remaining balance, assuming normal five years of life on equipment: (10,000 – 5,000) / 5 / 2: 500

    First year depreciation expense 5,500
