Intel: Barclays Ups To Buy; QCOM, BRCM Also Favorites

But that cut is probably already discounted in share prices, he thinks.

Muse raised his rating on Intel (INTC) to Overweight, along with Altera (ALTR) and Spansion (CODE). he cut his rating on Analog Devices (ADI), Micron Technology (MU), Nvidia (NVDA), and Xilinx (XLNX) to Equal Weight. And he maintains Freescale Semiconductor (FSL), Linear Technology (LLTC), and Texas Instruments (TXN) at Equal Weight.

Overweight-rated Qualcomm (QCOM), Broadcom (BRCM), and NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) are also top picks. Muse’s favor toward Intel and the others is based on several large trends, including the “blurring of the lines of PC/Handset/Mobility” and the “manufacturing excellence in an escalating Cost/Complexity environment.”

Of Intel specifically, he writes:

While headwinds from a still probably too high PC forecast for 2011 combined with Intel’s lagging position in the ultra mobile space will likely continue to weigh on overall investor sentiment, we see shares at near trough valuation supported by ~4% dividend yield, and expect Intel’s aggressive investments in leading edge manufacturing and accelerated 3-D architecture adoption as positioning the company to participate in future design cycles for tablet/smartphone applications.

Muse has a $26 price target on Intel.

Intel shares today are up 59 cents, or 3%, at $20.52.
