Danny Manning – The Clippers’ Only Ray of Light

It is not a big surprise that there is little reason for the fans of the Clippers to celebrate. Many of the fans are even surprised that there is still a team left, several people consider the Golden State Warriors to be a better basketball team. All this said, there is reason that Clipper fans can hold their head high. while the present history of the team is a little less than flattering, there is the one gleam of hope called Danny Manning.

Who is Danny Manning you may be asking? well, he was the Clippers best hope in 1988, when he was drafted as the #1 overall draft pick. The Clippers, by way of having a horrible season previously, won the lottery and got the #1 pick in the 1988 draft. With this pick they chose Manning. while others would have liked to see another player picked instead of Manning, he soon proved his worth to the team when he took to the court. During his career he scored over 12,000 points as well as led the league in rebounds and blocks. These accomplishments were all that the team needed to have a renewed sense of life. During the years that Manning played for them, the Clippers were on fire, setting all kinds of records. there was excitement about the team’s chances that this could be the turnaround that they were looking for. Many thought that this was going to be the era that they would finally establish themselves as a serious team.

Manning alone could not lift the Clippers up, and despite all his efforts the team was not able to get to the post season. Many fans blamed Manning, while a large number of the faithful placed blame on the coaching staff for not using Manning wisely. It is always easier to sit on the sidelines and place blame. after all the fans know more than the actual coaches do Manning kept trying and in his final year with the Clippers, they finally did it, they made it to the playoffs. while this was a brief stay in the playoffs, they at least made it there. It is interesting to note that the Clippers are only one of three teams in the NBA to never have won an NBA title. The die-hard clippers fans hope that this will change soon enough.

The Clippers are a gutsy team, which can be said about them. The other thing that can be said is that the Clippers are just waiting for another Danny Manning to come along, and help them back to the NBA playoffs, this team is getting good at watching the playoffs from home, but remember that the best things come to those who wait. hopefully, in the upcoming seasons their opportunity will present itself and they can win it all. The Fans are just waiting for there to be a reason to cheer for the home team once again.

Organisers of a new service to help the over 50s are hoping to attract volunteers who are on their toes.

happy Feet is a toenail cutting service coming to Ilkley after a successful pilot scheme in Bradford earlier this year.

Set up by Age UK with assistance from the podiatry team at Bradford District Care Trust, it will help older people who have trouble cutting their own nails or have no one to help.

but before the service can begin at the Clarke Foley Centre, in Cunliffe Road, on Thursday mornings, volunteers will need to be trained to cut people’s toenails.

the not-for-profit scheme will charge people £5 to have their nails cut and £7 at their first session to pay for their instruments, which they keep and bring back each time they need a trim.

Joanna Hammond, who is a health promotion specialist (adult services) for the trust, will be training volunteers to perform basic nail care.

She says the volunteers will probably only need to offer one morning a week to help initially and then possibly once a fortnight, at the scheme, which is the first to be set-up after the pilot.

“We are looking for volunteers who care about older people in the community and want to do something to improve their quality of life,” she said.

Miss Hammond said she hopes to have an open day before Christmas to allow volunteers and older people to see what the scheme is about, before getting it up and running in the New Year.

A full medical history and foot examination will be carried out on people wanting their nails cut, before they are allowed to use happy Feet. People who are diabetic or taking Warfarin or steroids are not eligible for the service.

there will be no podiatry services via happy Feet, just nail cutting, Miss Hammond added.

You probably get nervous or something. When i get nervous it feels like my body is heavy that's probably the same thing that happens to you.

How much do nail buffers cost?

i'm talking about an average priced one. i don't want like super top quality or anything.. one that i can get at a drug store or sally's.
this guy at the mall tried to sell me a nail buffer, cuticle oil, and hand cream for 40 bucks.. and he said that was the discounted price!

omg that happend to me today… was it some kind of organic dead sea stuff?
you can go to your local $1 store

or try a drugstore like cvs, rite aid, etc.
they range from $3-6

I have something which belonged to a Nazi SS woman..?

Its a pocket sized device, engraved on it the swatzdiger and famous SS logo [the two bolts of lightening].
It has within it a nail file, scissors and something to push back nail cuticles with.
Theyre quite rare, i was wondering if theyre worth anything? or if anybody else has anything that sounds like the description, please contact me on mr_mancunian@hotmail.co.uk

Is there such a thing as nail file for baby nails?

My 3 month old has razor sharp nails and she keep sctraching herself, I have used scratch mits but she just sucks them until they are soaking wet. I have baby scissors and I trim her nails often, no matter how I do it, her nails are still very sharp and I want to stop using scratch mits as she is learning to grab etc.. now and I do not want to hinder her development. I need to file her nails to soften them and an adult file is too harsh, any advice?

Yes…they are really small gentle emery boards. I have some that came in one of my little medical kits from my baby shower. or you could try using the light side from the emery board…it isn't much different than the darker side of the baby file.

Yes, I know they sell them at babies r us, usually in a kit that has clippers and stuff.

My pediatrician told me to put my babys fingers in my mouth and gently bite the nails off. I cut my first sons sweet little finger and made it bleed with a clipper. OOOHHH, I cried!

what is she damaging with her sharp nails?
Her face probably, make sure her hands are occupied with a toy or rattle or whatever, give her lots to grab!
Careful cutting with scissors, ( more control than clippers) while she is asleep my help. It is usually the corners at the edge which cause the damage so just a tiny snip across the sharp corner may limit the damage, she will grow out of it!

No there is not a nail file for babies that young, however they do have baby nail clippers which does a pretty good job. also I suggest that the scratch mits are a little to big, so used baby socks that will fit your baby's tiny hands nice and snug.
It has worked for my children and all four of my grandchilden.

I have the same problem with my 3 month old. The only solution for us is to cut her nails very often, they grow so fast. once they are short again she can't scratch herself anymore. Luckily she holds still when I try to cut her nails, wouldn't know what to do if she wouldn't hold still….

They do have nail files. I bought a bag from Target full of little essentials for grooming a baby. It has a hairbrush, comb, scissors, clippers and nail files and also medicine droppers, nose syringe. anyways, it was about $20.00 and well worth it. I also have a 3 month old that scratches himself so I know..this kit is worth the money because before you know it we will be in the next "phase".
