Removing Dried Paint From Your Carpet

Carpet can really make a home beautiful and more appealing. A nice, clean carpet can improve not only the look of a room but also make it more comfortable and warm. unfortunately there are a number of cleaning obstacles that can present themselves at any given time. One of the biggest problems is getting dried paint out of your carpet fibers. Paint spills can occur through any number of scenarios, from repainting a room to the kids enjoying some finger painting in the living room.

The best time to clean spilled paint is when it is still fresh, but sometimes you may find out about it after the fact. If you happen to have dried paint on your carpet, here are some steps you can take to remove it.

The first thing that you need to do is to identify which cleaning agent to use. There are a lot of products that can do the trick, such as WD-40 or acetone nail polish remover. Choose any of these that you have lying around the house and test a few drops of it on a small area first. this is important for checking whether the product you have chosen is safe on your carpet. If it is okay then you can move on and start removing the dried paint stain.

The next step that you need to take is to remove as much of the dried paint from the carpet fibers as possible. For this you can use a razor blade or a dull knife to scrape as much of the paint off as you can. Use a vacuum cleaner to extract the loose particles that are left on your carpet.

Once you have removed as much of the dried stain as possible, apply the WD-40 or acetone nail polish remover to the stained area. only apply a little at a time. You can always add more later. let it set for 15-20 minutes to allow the product to soften the paint.

After letting it set, apply WD-40 or acetone nail polish remover onto the stained area again and scrub it softly with a bristled brush. You will see that the dried paint will have softened and will start to come off the carpet. Do this until you have removed the dried paint completely.

After removing the dried paint stain, make sure that you rinse the area thoroughly with water to remove any excess chemicals. Dry it up by using a wet vac or some clean towels.

You see, removing dried paint from your carpet is not that hard. Following the steps above will certainly alleviate any problems you may have with dealing with the dried paint on your carpet.

The Dos and Don’ts of Cabinet Refinishing

Although refinishing your kitchen cabinets is more time consuming than it is difficult, there are definitely some tricks you can use to shorten the process and save money. This article is going to explore the things you should do and those you should avoid.

DO make one trip to the paint, discount, or home improvement store with a list encompassing all of the things you need to buy. Make a list of stain, varnish, fine and rough grit sandpapers, foam brushes, tack cloths, steel wool, plastic, a palm sander, and a small can of varnish remover.

DON’T make numerous trips to the store because you’ve forgotten something. your expense on gas will decrease the amount you save by doing the job yourself, and frequent trips will eat up your time making a lengthy process even longer.

DO use high-quality materials. What’s the point of going to all of this work and then using finishes that won’t hold up under use?

DON’T buy sale stain and varnish products. They can get old. if you buy a varnish that has a thick scum on the top, it’s a sure sign that the varnish has been around for awhile.

DO sand all wood with rough-grit sandpaper first. It will help remove the finish. use the fine grit after you’ve removed the finish to smooth the wood and get it ready for staining.

DON’T try to sand too deep in some areas to remove scratches. You’ll end up with peaks and valleys on the fronts of your cupboards. Instead, sand the entire surface smooth and then apply wood filler if the scratch still looks bad.

DO use hand sanding and varnish remover in spaces where your palm sander won’t fit. if you don’t get all of the old finish off before starting to apply new stain, you’re going to end up with areas that don’t match the rest of the surface.

DON’T try to do all of the finish removal with varnish remover. Even though the packages all say that the products are simple to use, there’s nothing easy about them. It still takes a lot of work, you are breathing in chemical fumes the entire time you’re using them, you still have to dig finish out of moldings and corners, you end up with a lot of mess to clean up, and you’ll spend a lot of money on all of the varnish remover you’ll end up needing.

DO use clean rags to wipe on stains. There’s no point buying brushes for stain, because it can be applied just as easily (or maybe easier than) when using a brush. you have more control of what you’re doing when you apply the finish by hand this way, and you save money on brushes.

DON’T throw away used foam brushes after each coat of varnish you put on. keep a piece of plastic wrap or a plastic bag to wrap the brush in between coats. It will stay soft that way, you’ll be able to use it multiple times, and you’ll be able to get by with buying a lot fewer brushes. Foam brushes are inexpensive, and they don’t leave brush marks.

Nail Fungus Polish

In recent years, the first effective topical prescription treatment for nail fungus infections – nail fungus polish – has become available. Penlac, a commercial tradename for the drug ciclopirox is a nail laquer, a preparation that comes in a little bottle like a bottle of nail polish, and that is applied to the infected nail with a small brush. Ciclopirox is only recommended in cases where the infection does not affect the lunula (the cresent shaped white area at the base of the nail). in an advanced infection where fungus has invaded the lunula, Penlac is not recommended.

Ciclopirox copies the method of the average natural cure for nail fungus: an antifungal substance is applied to an infected nail in the hopes that it will penetrate the nail to reach the fungus and kill it. this approach has obvious advantages over systemic antifungal drugs. a nail fungus polish specifically treats the affected area and does not expose the rest of the body to antifungal agents. The possibility of adverse side effects of a systemic drug are eliminated and periodic blood tests to measure the drug’s effects on body functions are also avoided. Penlac is not perfect however.

Like every topical natural cure for nail fungus, ciclopirox takes a long time to work, frequently doesn’t result in a perfectly clear nail, doesn’t work on every species of fungus that may infect a nail, and should be used with caution in certain circumstances (such as immunosuppression, diabetes, epilepsy, pregnancy etc.: consult your doctor). another marked disadvantage of this prescription drug is that Penlac nail fungus polish is expensive, putting it out of reach of many people without drug plans to cover the expense.

When ciclopirox nail fungus polish cannot be used for health or financial reasons, or if the patient prefers not to use a prescription drug, a natural cure for nail fungus is an obvious choice. Relatively new products on the market, especially those that contain the antiseptic tea tree oil, are backed up by some scientific study but derived from natural sources and not controlled by pharmaceutical companies. like ciclopirox, tea tree oil appears to be capable of penetrating the nail to reach the fungus, and it’s clear that tea tree oil has antifungal activity. it works well for many people.

Before prescribing ciclopirox nail fungus polish, your doctor should take a sample of your affected nail for laboratory testing. at this time, only microscopic examination and fungal culture can confirm that the problem with your nail is truly fungal growth. other nail abnormalities can look a lot like fungal growth empirically, but are caused by something that will not be cured with antifungal agents. likewise, before spending time and money on a natural cure for nail fungus, it’s a good idea to have the tests done to confirm fungal infection. Studies have estimated that as many as one third of patients treated with antifungals based on nail appearance alone, do not have nail fungus infection.
