I'm myself looking at the oral B 1000, 2000, 3000 because they are half price in Boots at the minute. but I'm not sure which is better? Of course they get better as they get more expensive, but what is pros and cons of the more expensive ones, in comparisons with the cheaper ones?

Oral B makes great electric toothbrushes. Sonicare is a good brand too. and no, the more expensive models aren't necessarily better than the more modest ones, they're just more gimicky.

I recently looked up the term metrosexual and the definitions I came across described a man who has a high disposable income, lives or works in the city, is overly concerned with his appearance (e.g. vain, loves to shop, gets manicures, laser hair removal, etc.) and who displays attributes stereotypically associated with women or homosexual men (that is, NOT stereotypical male qualities). Indeed, modern day life in NYC has definitely blurred gender lines to such an extent that I know certain self-proclaimed Casanovas who are so in touch with their feminine side and/or exhibit such a sense of style that every woman (and non-metrosexual guy) I know is convinced that they are gay. I often wonder if they realize that is the looming question every time they walk away from hitting on a girl.

But, there is the flip side of the coin that no one talks about – the Alpha Female who is as equally unappealing to the men, Ladies, as the uber-metrosexual male is to you. Certainly, we all know her though none of my male clients want to meet her. she is more often than not successful, self-reliant, loud-spoken, opinionated and domineering. she may even be hot with a killer body, wearing a mini-skirt and a garter belt underneath but ultimately she is still exuding a masculine energy and a harshness that is just not attractive. and while no guys are wondering if she is gay when she walks away, they are happy to let her leave. Then they turn their attention to the foreign cutie in the corner or the girl at the bar with the soft Southern accent and enjoy being in the presence of a graceful and sexy woman.

Yes, Ladies, another Don’t Shoot the Messenger blog: I hear far too many men complain that New York women simply do not know how to be feminine. and this is really such a shame because femininity is appealing, femininity is sexy and exuding femininity can often be much more powerful than bulldozing your dates, co-workers, etc. with masculine energy.

Unfortunately, this city breeds a certain type of Alpha Female who thinks that power is found in speaking in harsh, loud, strident tones (yes, there is a New York way of speaking a la Bethenny Frankel that simultaneously indicates that the speaker will cut you down to size and castrate you and then tell all of her friends about it). this way of speaking may or may not get results in the office, but in regard to dating scientific studies show that it is not effective as men consistently rate women as more attractive when they speak in a pleasant tone of voice. so, Ladies, why not give it a try – speak in a softer voice and see if you don’t notice a little more chivalrous treatment.

Indeed, these same Alpha Females can often be observed virtually marching down the street, office hallway, etc. when they could benefit immensely from walking with a bit of finesse and grace. just the other week I was talking with a guy friend who commented that he is always drawn to European women because they just know how to move better than New York women. something to think about, Ladies.

Equally unappealing, these Alpha Females are often know-it-alls on their dates. they know everything about sports, everything about finance, everything about EVERYTHING and there isn’t possibly anything these guys can teach them because, well, they know everything. After a date like that, imagine what a breath of fresh air it is for a guy when he meets a woman who shows curiosity and appreciation for the things he wants to share with her (as I have had to explain to some of my female clients, men like to teach – let them).[1] unlike their Latin sisters who typically go out of their way to make a man feel like a man and who know when to let him take charge of a situation (e.g. to protect those around him – a very natural male instinct), many New York women make sure the guy knows that they intend to wear the pants in the relationship and the pants will be Prada. while the metrosexual male may want to get into those Prada pants, that’s about it.

Now please know that I am not saying that women should be penalized for being smart, successful and having opinions. To the contrary, the men with whom I speak are very attracted to women who can counter a fun loving jibe with a witty retort or who can beat them in a game of tennis or golf. Let’s be crystal clear – the quality guys I know are definitely not looking for a doormat. What I am saying, however, is that it’s no surprise that a guy will often forgo this metrosexual equivalent female emitting masculine, harsh energy and who thinks it’s funny and cool that she doesn’t know how to cook to instead choose spending time with a woman who is sweet, supportive, appreciative, graceful, feminine and can occasionally prepare a dish or two.

The unfortunate reality is that sometimes it’s necessary for women here to adopt a tough exterior to survive in the dog eat dog world of corporate New York. However, Ladies, if you learn how to skillfully flip the switch and leave your Alpha Female in the office you will likely see a whole new response from the men around you. as I stated in my First Date Tool Box Lecture, men don’t want to date a man (at least the straight ones don’t) – where’s Jean Nate when you need it?[2]

The most common cause of heel pain and heel spurs is a condition called Plantar Fasciitis. this is Latin for inflammation of the Plantar Fascia. the Plantar Fascia is the broad band of fibrous tissue that runs under the foot and that forms your arch. because of a number of different factors the plantar fascia are being overly stretched and this continuous pulling results in inflammation and pain at the heel bone, at the point where the ligaments insert into the heel bone.

Over-pronation of the feet (fallen arches + rolling inward of the feet and ankles), tight calf muscles, as well as aging and being overweight are the main causes for the plantar fascia being overly stretched.

There are many ways to treat heel pain, heel spurs and Plantar Fasciitis, including cortisone injections and surgery. However, in most cases Plantar Fasciitis relief can be achieved through self-help by following a number of easy, simple steps, most of which are aimed at reducing the pulling of the plantar fascia:

1. Rest, reduced activity:

When you have Plantar Fasciitis avoid any activity that can further aggravate the problem. this includes walking for long distances, walking up or down stairs, running, sports etc. If you want to keep fit swimming is the safest activity, until your heel pain has been treated properly. Or you can ride a bike or a stationary exercise bike. Basically, try to be as little on your feet as possible, allowing the plantar fascia to heal itself.

2. Ice (can be combined with heat)

Use an ice pack and apply it onto the sore heel for 5-10 mins at a time, 3 to 4 times per day. the ice will reduce the Plantar Fasciitis inflammation in the heel area. to help reduce any chronic inflammation, you can try alternating between ice and heat. Place an ice pack on the heel for 5 minutes and then switch to a hot pack (or hot water foot bath) for another 5 minutes. Do this for about 20-30 minutes per day and you’ll notice some considerable heel pain relief.

3. Roll a tennis ball (or rolling pin) under the foot

Many people with Plantar Fasciitis experience a sharp heel pain in the morning, when taking the first steps after getting out of bed. this pain comes from the tightening of the plantar fascia that occurs during sleep. Stretching and massaging the plantar fascia before standing up will help reduce heel pain for the rest of your day Massaging the plantar fascia can be done simply by rolling a tennis ball (or rolling pin) under the foot, all the way from the heel to the toes. You may do this sitting down, applying a fair amount of pressure onto the arch, or even standing up as long this causes not too much discomfort. keep rolling the ball or pin under the foot for about 5 minutes.

4. Towel stretch

Your next Plantar Fasciitis exercise is stretching of the plantar fascia using a bath towel. Put a rolled up towel under the ball of one foot, holding both ends of the towel with your left and right hand. next, slowly pull the towel towards you, while keeping your knee straight (the other knee may be bent). Hold this position for 15 to 20 seconds. Repeat 4 times and change to the other foot, if necessary. (It’s always good to do these exercises on both feet, even if you only experience heel pain in one foot, as this will help prevent the heel problem to come back in your other foot)

5. Stretch your calf muscles

Tight calf muscles is a major contributing factor to Plantar Fasciitis. therefore this particular heel pain exercise is very important. Stand facing a wall with your hands on the wall at about eye level. Put one leg about a step behind your other leg, keeping your back heel flat on the floor. make sure this leg stays straight at all times. now bend the knee of the front leg slowly, lowering your body until you feel a stretch in the calf of the back leg. Hold the stretch for 15 to 20 seconds. Repeat 4 times. Do the same for the other leg.

Now you’re ready to face the day please make sure you don’t walk barefoot at home in the morning, as this will undo all the hard work and aggravate your plantar fasciitis. Wear shoes or supportive sandals as soon as you have done the heel pain exercises.

You can repeat any of these heel pain exercises during the day, if you wish. For example the tennis ball rolling can be done as you watch TV or read the paper.

There’s one more plantar fasciitis exercise you may want to do which is called the Achilles Tendon stretch. Stand on a step with both feet on the same step and slowly let your heels down over the edge of the step as you relax your calf muscles. Hold this stretch for about 15 to 20 seconds, then tighten your calf muscle a little to bring your heel back up to the level of the step. Repeat 4 times.

Please note that stretching exercises should create a pulling feeling, they should never cause pain

6. take an anti-inflammatory drug, like Ibuprofen

To ease Plantar Fasciitis and heel pain you can take an anti-inflammatory that contains Ibuprofen, like Nurofen or Advil. this is a short term fix that will help decrease the inflammation of the plantar fascia. You still need to do take all the other measures such as stretching, ice, orthotics etc to achieve long term pain relief from your heel problem. For many people Ibuprofen is pretty heavy on the stomach and therefore these drugs should be taken in moderation.

7. Lose some weight

As we get older we tend to put in a bit of extra weight. the combination of weight gain and aging means we put a lot of extra tension on our muscles and ligaments in the feet, legs and back. Most people tend to over-pronate because of weight gain. Over-pronation (fallen arches) is the main cause of Plantar Fasciitis and heel pain. therefore by losing weight you will decrease the tension on the plantar fascia.

8. Wear the right footwear

Supportive footwear is paramount, especially as we get older. Floppy footwear causes ankle instability during walking and contributes to the problem of over-pronation, leading to heel pain and other foot problems. a good supportive shoe should only bend at the sole in the forefoot area and should be firm elsewhere, especially the back section of the shoe (heel counter) should be firm. many footwear companies advertise shock-absorption and cushioning as the major benefits of their (sports) shoes. Stability is far more important than cushioning

9. use a Plantar Fasciitis night splint

A night splint holds the foot at 90 degrees during your sleep. the aim of the splints is to keep your foot and calf muscles stretched during the night. normally during rest the plantar fascia and calves tend to tighten and shorten. So when you wake up in the morning and take your first steps, the fascia are being pulled all of a sudden, causing the sharp pain in the heel.

The problem with night splints is that they can be quite uncomfortable. this is why they are so-called sock night splints on the market which are more bearable than rigid night splints.

10. Wear orthotics in your shoes

Research has shown that by far the most effective way to treat heel pain, plantar fasciitis and heel spurs is wearing a corrective device inside the shoe. Orthotics are designed to correct the problem of over-pronation, the major cause of plantar fasciitis and heel pain. Orthotics support the arches and control abnormal motion of the feet, thereby greatly reducing the tension in the plantar fascia band. Especially when combined with daily exercises, orthotics will provide relief to the majority of heel pain sufferers.

Orthotics can be obtained from a foot specialist (podiatrist). These are called custom orthotics and they usually quite hard. Nowadays there are softer orthotics on the market, which are made of EVA and which mold themselves to the wearer’s foot shape because of body heat and body weight. These softer orthotics are pre-made and can be very effective in the treatment of Plantar Fasciitis. They are available without a prescription from pharmacies and specialty websites.

Gone are the days when pubic hair shavers were considered to be a ‘sexy’ thing to buy. Hair shaving has become a personal hygiene thing and a pubic shaver or hair trimmer is likely to be part of beauty regiment for most women who like to be comfortable. there are many pubic hair shavers available in both beauty stores and it is really a personal preference of certain brands which help users decide which one they should choose.

For the first time pubic shaver, it is a good idea to lubricate the region with a lubricant so that you get a good shave. Since this area is a sensitive one, don’t make the mistake of equating it to shaving any other part of the body. Electrolysis hair removal is an effective technique to remove hair from the body. this procedure can be used to remove individual hair from almost all parts of the body including eyebrows, face, thighs, abdomen, breasts, and legs. Electrolysis hair removal is usually a very safe procedure. Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Four years of President Barack Obama’s regulatory and economic assault on our economy is coming home to roost in summer 2012 to make this a long, hot summer for working Americans. Gas prices at nearly $4 a gallon are choking summer driving.  A more than 8% unemployment rate for the 4th year in a row is stifling summer jobs.  Now hotel and neighborhood pools could be closed for the season due to the latest batch of federal red tape.  

The last time we had a run up in gas prices like this was 2008, as the nation slid into the worst recession since the great Depression. 

Americans demanded commonsense solutions that year – cut our reliance on foreign oil by drilling here, offshore, and in Alaska, while pushing for new energy sources including wind, solar, thermal, natural gas, nuclear, clean coal, and hydroelectric.  “All of the above”, was the resounding national consensus on how best to expand American energy production and become independent from foreign oil. 

What we got instead was the Obama Administration actually standing in contempt of a federal court order to allow renewed oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.    the President likewise continued his blocking of new drilling in Alaska. 

Oil leases on federal lands and waters have dropped 44% since Obama took office, from 9,929 during the last three years of the Bush Administration, to 5,568 under the first three years of the Obama Administration, according to Bureau of Land Management records.

The only thing that has prevented even higher prices at the pump is that drilling on private land has increased as a result of new private-sector oil technologies that produce oil from fields that were previously of marginal value or closed.   yet the Administration has even managed to undermine those efforts, by blocking the critical Keystone Pipeline project that would bring new oil from Canadian shale oil fields to our Texas refineries, creating 20,00 new jobs immediately and another 110,000 in the future.

To add insult to injury, while blocking the private sector from using private money to increase energy and jobs at zero taxpayer expense, the President has spent billions of taxpayer dollars on failed “green” energy schemes of Administration friends like the bankrupt Solyndra solar energy company, while producing not one watt of new power. the only thing green about this Administration’s energy policy is apparently the green going into the pockets of Obama campaign donors.   

While spending the nation into our first-ever international credit downgrade through $834 billion in federal stimulus giveaways like Solyndra, the Administration policies have worsened the economic plight of middle-income Americans.  as of March, real median household income is down $4,300 a year since Obama took office according to the latest analysis of U.S. Census data by Sentier Research. 

All while the unemployment rate remains at 8.2% according to March jobs data.  Not only are families earning less, fewer of them are earning anything under the current economic policies.   so much for summer jobs for kids.  so much for fulltime jobs for parents.
